Abstract:
The construction industry is the main institution responsible for putting up
infrastructural projects. The institution relies on well – functioning and educated
skilled labour workers in discharging their duties. There has been frequent change of
skilled labour job place in recent times at Berekum Municipality. The aim of this
study was to assess factors that cause frequent change of skilled labour job place in
construction industry. The study adopted a quantitative design involving the
administration of survey questionnaires to a sample of 80 respondents made of
supervisors, skilled labor and unskilled labor. The collected data was analyzed using
statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 21. The results were presented
using percentages and mean values in a Table. The findings of the study suggested
that delays in payment of work done, inefficient equipment, rampant accidents, lack
of training among others, were the contributing factors of skilled labour turnover.
Based on the findings, the study recommends that, there should be organized training
for workers, there should also be provision of efficient materials and equipment to
prevent accidents and reasonable remuneration should be paid to workers for their
work done. Frequent change of skilled labour job place in construction industry would
be reduced if proper attention is given to the proposed recommendation
