Abstract:
This study aimed to help recruits of Military Academy Training School (MATS) and
Burma Camp in the use of French to accomplish tasks in the discharge of their duty and
also help them minimize the difficulties they face in teaching/learning French for
Specific Purposes (FSP). It is assumed that the recruits have difficulty in their need to
use the FSP and this was due to the technique of teaching/learning. Our theoretical
framework was based on communicative approach, action-oriented approach, computer
assisted language learning and teaching and behaviorist theory. Questionnaire,
interview and observation were used as instruments to collect data to ascertain the fact.
The recruits mentioned above were used as population sample. This study has adopted
the case study research design and has used the qualitative approach for data analysis.
The result has not only shown that the recruits indeed have difficulty in communication
but also the technique/approach of teaching and learning was questionable. These
findings imply that if teaching/learning of FSP continues this way, its objective would
not be achieved. Therefore, we suggested that ICT should be integrated in their studies
i.e. the use of videos and audios with the help of computer/laptop, projector, speaker,
microphone etc.
