Abstract:
Examining the Standards Based Curriculum's implementation in Gomoa West District
early childhood institutions was the aim of this study. The study's scope was restricted
to early childhood educators' use of the Standards Based Curriculum in Gomoa West
District early childhood education institutions. One hundred and eighteen (118) people
participated in the study, which used a Descriptive Qualitative Design. Ninety-three
(93) respondents were sampled by the researcher for the study. The study's sample was
selected through the use of purposive and stratified random sampling techniques. Data
was collected from the study's sample of respondents using a series of questionnaires,
a semi-structured interview guide, and an observational checklist. Descriptive statistics
and qualitative narrative analysis were used to examine the data collected from the
study's participants. According to the survey, early childhood education centres in the
Gomoa West District’s instructors had a favourable opinion on the adoption of the
standards-based curriculum. Additionally, the survey discovered that teachers in the
Gomoa West District were crucial in implementing the standards-based curriculum for
early childhood education centres. Once more, the study discovered that early
childhood education centres in the Gomoa West District encountered a number of
difficulties when implementing the standards-based curriculum for their teachers.
According to the study's principal findings, early childhood educators in the Gomoa
West District had a positive attitude towards their instructors' usage of the Standards-
Based Curriculum in their early childhood education centres. Second, the study
concludes that early childhood educators played an important role in the adoption of
the Standards-Based Curriculum by Gomoa West District early childhood education
centres. Third, the study concludes that early childhood education centres in the Gomoa
West District have several challenges while implementing the Standards-Based
Curriculum for its teachers. According to the study, the government, parents, and
directors of early childhood education centres in the Gomoa West District are among
the education stakeholders who should help their teachers maintain a positive attitude
and play important roles in the district's successful adoption of the Standards-Based
Curriculum for Early Childhood Education Centres. Furthermore, Gomoa West District
education stakeholders must find practical ways to overcome the challenges teachers
have when implementing the standards-based curriculum in the district's early
childhood education centres.
