Abstract:
French is one of the languages which is taught and learned in Ghana as a foreign
language. Currently, it is studied from the Basic school to the University level. This
study therefore sought to analyse difficulties encountered by the learners of Winneba
Senior High School in the Effutu Municipality in the Central Region of Ghana
regarding the use the concord of verbs’ tenses after the subordinating conjunction “si”.
The aim of this research is to identify the errors that learners and the users of French
language commit when using the subordinating conjunction “si” in their written French
exercises. The research also aimed to identify the causes of these difficulties in order to
propose an intervention to overcome them. Data tools collection such as questionnaire,
observation and tests were used. Analysis have shown that majority of learners in the
above-mentioned school have difficulties in using the concord of verbs’ tenses after the
subordinating conjunction “si” In the light of these findings, appropriate pedagogical
methods were used as intervention to overcome the difficulties of the learners.
