Abstract:
The main purpose of the study was to assess the perception of staff on internal job rotation
and the performance of the workers of the Ghana Education Service in the Bosomtwe
District of Ashanti Region. The researcher used descriptive research design. Quantitative
research approach was used. The target population of the study was made up of employees
at Bosomtwe District Education in Ashanti Region of Ghana that comprised of 108
employees. Census sampling techniques was used to select all the 108 respondents for the
study. The Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) version 16.0 was used to analyse
the data. The study found that job rotation is a planned replacement of employees among
jobs in a period of time for one or more goals of earning skills and job independence;
increasing motivation, job performance and productivity. The study results indicate that job
rotation is the effective method for developing the horizon of employees. Furthermore, job
rotation is the process of managing employees talents. To add more, job rotation is
considered as a method of job design by which employees learn job skills from different
parts and relieve exhaustion due to repeated tasks. The study concluded that job rotation
was effective method for developing the horizon of employees and managing employees
talent at GES. Moreover, job rotation leads to better understanding and reduced productivity
for some period. Also, unfavorable working conditions affected job rotation management.
Furthermore, difficulties in finding appropriate jobs to rotate affected job rotation
management. The study recommended that the GES Directorate should educate the
experience staff on the benefits of job rotation in order for staff to accept handing over their
current good positions to pave way for implementation of job rotation in the office.
