dc.description.abstract The study aims to research on the domestic solid waste management practices in Senya, in the Awutu Senya West district. The underlying factors affecting domestic solid waste practices in Senya was analyzed with suggested measures to tackle such problems. The survey research design was used for the study by the researcher. The study was concerned with findings on societal issues, problems or phenomena with some suggestions and recommendations aimed at improving, halting or curbing or minimizing the issue, phenomena or problem. The researcher generally made use of questionnaires as the instruments in the data collection. During the research activity, the following were the key findings established, inadequate containers or skip supply for storing waste, lack of regular and routine collection of waste, the peoples‟ attitudes towards domestic solid waste generation and its disposal was not the best. These attitudes give enough room for indiscriminate disposal of domestic solid waste and littering of the environment. The waste management institutions were faced with inadequate resources for effective collection of the waste generated in the district. To tackle the problem enumerated effectively, the following recommended measures must be considered: adequate provision of dustbins and skips, collection of waste regularly, proper managing of landfill, resources of waste management institutions must be adequate, regular monitoring and education of residents. Prosecuting residents who violate the laws on indiscriminate disposal of waste. en_US
