Abstract:
The study was conducted to determine the integration of ICT in the teaching and
learning of Social Studies in Senior High Schools in the New Juaben
Municipality. The study was guided by four research questions. The study was a
descriptive survey and had a population of one hundred and seven respondents.
The study employed the census technique and therefore the entire one hundred
and seven Social Studies Teacher‘s were used for the study. Questionnaire was
developed to solicit for information from the respondents. The data gathered were
analyzed using tables, frequencies, and percentages. The study revealed that the
integration of ICT in the teaching of Social Studies makes lessons more
interesting. It was further revealed that ICT improves Social Studies lesson
presentation. It was noticeable from the study that availability of ICT tools in the
teaching and learning of Social Studies were limited. The study revealed that most
Social Studies teachers have little knowledge in the use of ICT in teaching the
subject. It was further found that teachers have not been given adequate training in
the use of ICT in teaching Social Studies. The study recommends that, heads of
the various schools in the New Juaben Municipality, encourage the teachers in
their schools to make appropriate use of ICT facilities in the teaching and learning
of Social Studies. The researcher further recommends that, the Ministry of
Education should make budgetary allocations annually to maintain, replace, and
expand ICT facilities in the schools.
